Tell me a little about yourself

Hi I’m Natalie, a 33 year old stay at home mum of two little girls, ages 3 and 18 months.

We live in QLD on a few acres in a beautiful and peaceful rural area, but still only half an hour away from a large town.

My husband is a busy guy, working long hours and always helping out with the kids and yard work.

He’s a boxer as well so he loves exercise and is slowly starting to eat his veggies!

I keep chickens and have a big veggie garden and am passionate about growing my own healthy food.

I want to teach my children how to grow food and encourage their love of being outdoors and active.

My 3 year old loves to potter in the garden, picking her own strawberries (I always miss out!) and watering the plants with her own watering can.

Before you joined the Response Mode Program how did you feel about yourself?

I felt like a stranger in my body. My baby was a few months old and I didn’t want to be in photos with her.

I longed for my pre-kids body but didn’t know how to get it and thought it wasn’t possible anymore.

I had been doing walks on a treadmill for a month to try and lose weight with no success.

I hadn’t lost all the weight from my first baby before I had my second and I was scared I would just keep gaining weight.
What was the turning point that made you decide – YES I am going to change my body and get into shape

A friend inspired me! She shared one of the free two week challenges on Facebook and I agreed to do it with her.

At that stage I had just bought a few new clothes as I had nothing to wear, none of my old clothes fit and I was still wearing maternity clothes (my baby was 3 months old).

I dreaded going out because it meant I had to try and find something that would fit me.

We already had weights here and the minute I picked them up I knew it was what I needed – it was fun and I felt strong!

So how long have you been following the Response Mode Program?

I have been a member for a year and 3 months.

I did take a break for a couple of months when I got overwhelmed with life in general and was struggling to find time to workout.

BUT I regretted it very soon after and realized that if I didn’t make time for myself now, I never would.

Tell me about some of physical changes that you have noticed on the program?

I have lost 11kg and went from a size 16 to a size 10.

Never thought I would fit into my old pre-kids jeans but I do!

I’ve lost 13.5cm from my waist and 15.5cm from my hips.

What are the biggest positive changes you have noticed as a result of the being part of the program?natalie_and_bub

My energy level has skyrocketed – I feel fantastic (apart from the kids making me tired!). My skin and eyes are really clear and I can buy clothes that fit nicely.

I feel strong and can easily carry my children and groceries as well as 20kg bags of chicken food!

What part of your body did you want to change the most?

I felt like my hips and butt were huge and out of proportion to the rest of my body.

I really wanted to make them smaller and then the tummy was the next target.

I wanted to look fit and healthy and in proportion, while maintaining some curves.

Where do you do your workouts – home or gym and how do you fit them in your schedule esp with a little one running around?

I workout in the lounge room at home. Fitting the workouts in is always a struggle with kids!

I try to workout while my baby sleeps but I have finally accepted that most of the time I can’t workout alone listening to music.

I workout with one or both kids, with Peppa Pig on in the background haha. We add extra claps to the step ups and do lots of counting.

My 3 year old will randomly start doing star jumps and asking me to count. I like that they see me exercising and will grow up thinking of that as being normal.

How do you find the weekly workout structure and new workouts you get each week as a VIP member?

The workout structure is easy to follow and I download the workouts to my iPhone. The clear pictures of each exercise give me confidence that I’m doing them correctly.

I enjoy the variety and challenge of having new workouts every week – you never get bored!

How do you stay focused and motivated?

I remind myself that I need to be healthy and fit so I can look after my family.  They need the best I can give them. Exercise is a great stress relief and helps me sleep better too, so I try to focus on the benefits.

I also set myself little rewards for meeting my goals.

How do you handle the family meals?natalie_before_after_front

I do cook some food separately because my kids are so little. They love their veggies but I will often serve theirs with pasta and mine with brown rice for example.

We all have oats for brekky and my 3 year old loves smoothies. I usually give the kids sandwiches for lunch but they also like the wraps I often eat.

We have some family dinners that everyone will eat but to be honest my kids don’t eat much at dinner time. They graze all day on fruit. I can’t buy bananas fast enough!

My hubby doesn’t like all the veggies so I cook mine in a small microwave steamer and add them separately.  Our favourite family meals are soups, chicken fried rice and chicken bolognaise.

Do you ever have any blowouts with food and if so how did you move forward?

This is something I have struggled with a lot. I comfort eat when I get stressed or upset and I always reach for the carbs.

Toast, pizza, biscuits and crackers are my weaknesses!!

I move forward by taking it one meal at a time – just get the next meal right, and then the next one etc until it becomes easy again.

I try not to dwell on it and make my next meal something light and easy to digest like a Slimdown Smoothie.
