Tell me a little about yourself

I am a 41 yo mum who works shift work four days a week and also married to a shift worker.

My children are 8yo and 6yo and keep me extremely busy.

When I was younger I was in the Army and was very fit and kept in shape easily but as I have gotten older I have found myself never finding any time for myself and as a result gained 25kg since I met my husband and had my children.

Before you started the Slim Down Challenge Program how did you feel about yourself?

I was unhappy, ashamed and disappointed in myself for allowing my body to get to a point where I was too embarrassed to wear any clothes I liked or to have my photo taken.

I went for a job interview (which I didn’t get) but the whole time I was preparing and then sitting in the interview all I could think of was how they panel were probably looking at me and thinking that they didn’t want the fat woman to work for them, if she can’t look after her own health what would she be like working for us.

I know my husband loved me no matter what but I wanted him to like what he saw and to be proud to be seen in public with me and the way I was I didn’t think he really felt that.

What was the turning point that made you decide – YES I am going to change my body and get into shapemelissa-before-after-3

My mum died of cancer when I was 16yo and she was just 42yo.

I realised that my age was getting close to hers when she died and that I had been making excuses for why I wasn’t doing anything for too long and that the only way I was going to get happy with my body was to get off my butt and do something.

Thank goodness for Vix and her 14 day slim down challenge as it was just the kick in the butt that I needed to get off the couch and put the chocolate down.

I want to grow old with my husband and my children and I want lots of fun with them and being fat and unhappy wasn’t making that happen.

I also decided that I was not going to get into triple digits and at 99kg the only way to go was down!

So how long have you been following the Slim Down Challenge Program?

I did a slim down challenge starting on 17th February and haven’t stopped since.

I joined the VIP program at the end of the two weeks and haven’t been sorry yet.

Tell me about some of physical changes that you have noticed on the program?

I have lost nearly 100cm off my body and over 14kg.

I now fit into clothes that I thought I would never wear again, and some are even too big.

My diet has improved so much that I feel 10 years younger and have so much more energy it is amazing.

People who haven’t seen me for ages have commented on how good I look and I am proud of myself when they comment.

I still have 10kg to go and now feel that I can achieve that with the effort I have been putting in.

What are the biggest positive changes you have noticed as a result of the being part of the program?melissa-gym-equipment

A huge increase in energy, a tighter more toned body, healthier looking skin, more confidence and a more positive attitude about life.

I haven’t been hungry at all! I have enjoyed re-awakening my tastebuds to the taste of clean, healthy, nutritious foods.

What part of your body did you want to change the most?

The belly that used to look like I was 6 months pregnant, the classic muffin top, my huge bum and thighs.

Where do you do your workouts – home or gym and how do you fit them in your schedule esp with a little one running around

I work out at home because that is what makes it work for me as both myself and my husband work shift work and run around after two school aged children who have lots of after school activities.

By doing my workouts at home I don’t have to feel embarrassed about what I look like working out, I can listen to music I like while I am doing it and I can do it whenever it suits me.

Quite often that is at 8pm or later when the children are in bed and if I had to go out to a gym it just wouldn’t happen for me.

I bought a treadmill secondhand a while ago and also a weight bench with some bar bells and a dumb bell.

Since starting I have bought myself an exercise mat, swiss ball, kettle bell and medicine ball. I use what I have to get the work out done.

How do you stay focused and motivated?melissa-before-after-2

I log in to the VIP section a few times a day and contribute in some way every day.

I have a long term goal I have set myself which is very achievable (lose 25kg) as well as several mini goals to achieve along the way.

I have a very strong reason to keep focused as I want to be there for my children for a long time and to be able to do things with them that you couldn’t do when fat and unhealthy.

I make sure that I continue to enjoy my workouts by following the program to the letter so that I see results every week.

To date I have lost an average of about 1.2kg per week for 12 weeks.

Even though I am still heavier on the scales I know I am thinner because I have lean muscle replacing the fat stores I had.

How do you handle the family meals?

I still cook for my family but my portions are smaller and I make sure that I have options for me in the fridge for those nights when the family eat meals that I cannot.

As a result of me doing this program my family are also benefiting by eating healthier themselves.

I plan for the week and stick to my meal plan and ensure that when I shop I have everything I need to prepare those meals.

I enjoy eating 5 times a day as I never feel hungry and as long as I plan ahead I don’t even have to think much about food.

I have lost my cravings for sugar completely!

Do you ever have any blowouts with food and if so how did you move forward?

I have only had one week where I had a blowout and I knew that would happen because both Mothers Day and my birthday fell within that week.

I accepted that it happened and didn’t beat myself up for it as at the end of the week I realised it wasn’t too bad as I had still made mostly good choices.

I spent time on the Sunday thinking about what I still had to do to achieve my end goal weight.

Thankfully Vix also started a new 14 day VIP challenge and I LOVE a good challenge.

What would you say to anyone who is thinking about starting the Slim Down Program but isn’t sure?melissa-side-after

My results speak for themselves.

I am someone who tried for nearly 10 years to lose any weight and couldn’t drop more than a few kilos before quickly regaining the weight and getting upset with myself.

Vix makes the program totally achievable by combining fun but challenging workouts, an easy to follow meal plan with plenty of options and an amazing forum to interact with other women pushing for similar goals and plenty of other useful information to keep you motivated.

For the cost of $20 a month I have everything I need to fulfill my dreams of a strong, toned body.

That is so much cheaper than anything else I have been exposed to in my weight loss journey.

Don’t worry about being hungry because you WONT be and don’t worry about finding time to work out because you WILL.

Thanks for everything so far, Melissa
